Akira Miyawaki, the winner for
2006 Blue Planet Prize

The Officers and the whole Board of INTECOL are delighted to learn that Professor Dr. Akira Miyawaki of Japan, the immediate Past President of INTECOL, Director of Japanese Center for International Studies in Ecology (JISE), and Professor Emeritus of Yokohama National University, has been announced to be the winner for 2006 Blue Planet Prize for his contribution to establish a theory to restore and to reconstruct forests based on the concept of 'Potential natural vegetation' and to implement the theory.

It is very nice for us to know that all his very hard work and dedication to INTECOL, both as Chair of the Organising Committee of the V INTECOL International Congress of Ecology held in Yokohama, Japan, 23-30 August, 1990 and Past President of INTECOL over the years, for which we are extremely grateful, has not been too much of a handicap in his research. We extend our warmest congratulations to him on this honour.
