Congratulations to Professor Sir John Lawton, the President of the British
Ecological Society, on Receiving the Ramon Margalef Award for 2006

The Officers and the whole Board of INTECOL are delighted to learn that
Professor Sir John Lawton, the current President of the British Ecological Society,
on receiving the Ramon Margalef Award for 2006. This international award
was instituted in 2005 by the Spanish governement, and is
dedicated to distinction in ecology and environmental science. Sir John has an
outstanding international research record, and has been hugely influential in
the development of ecological science in the United Kingdom in recent decades.
Some members of INTECOL will recall that Ramon Margalef was very much involved in the
establishment of INTECOL during the 1960's, and the Board is delighted that the
Spanish Government has chosen to highlight the importance of ecological science
in this way and to name the award after him. We extend our warmest
congratulations to him on this honour.
