  IMPROVING SERVICES TO MEMBERS
Dear Members and Supporters of INTECOL,

The Board of the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) is in the process of trying to improve the services it provides for members. One such measure would be to advertise more effectively ecological meetings around the world. INTECOL now has members in 79 countries, and there are probably many important meetings that go unnoticed by many members which would be of interest to them. Our website does of course already provide links to national ecological society websites which contain lists of their meetings, but perhaps we can highlight some of the latter on our web pages. Of course, there are many countries that do not have ecological societies, and we can certainly help advertise important meetings more widely in those circumstances. To help us expand this service, please send information to our Webmaster, Professor Eun-Shik Kim at [email protected] and/or upload the specific information to our Open Bulletin Board of INTECOL website at http://www.intecol.net/forum/board_list.asp.

Currently, there are conferences whose website information is available on INTECOL website, which include 1) The 5th NRIFD, International Symposium on Forest Fire Protection, Tokyo, Japan, 30 November - 2 December 2005; 2) First iLEAPS (Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atmosphere Processes Study) Science Conference, Boulder, Colorado, USA, 21 - 26 January 2006; 3) hydroEco2006: International Multidisciplinary Conference on Hydrology and Ecology, Czech Republic, 11-14 September 2006. If you visit our INTECOL website at http://www.intecol.net/event/International-Conferences-on-Ecology.htm, you can find some more of the details of them.

Another possibility of increasing the interchange of information between members would be for us to develop a news and views section of the web. We would be interested in hearing views from members about this. Open Bulletin Board is now open at http://www.intecol.net/forum/board_list.asp to the ecologists of the world in order to facilitate and promote communication among the ecologists for their ideas and issues on ecology of the world. Please feel free to use this board related to the subjects on the discipline of ecology of the world. To make this work we would need a good flow of information from individual members and affiliated societies. Again, this could be particularly useful to ecologists in countries where there is currently no national ecological society.

To supporters of INTECOL, we invite you and your friends in ecology to become members of INTECOL if you and your friends have not already done so. You may join on the INTECOL website (http://www.intecol.net) and membership is currently without charge until 1 January 2006. The membership fee from 2006 will be modest.

The Board very much looks forward to hearing from you on these or any other subject,

With kindest regards,

John A. Lee, President, INTECOL
Eun-Shik Kim, Secretary General, INTECOL
