WELCOME MESSAGES
Welcome from the President of ICE:

Dear Fellow Entomologist

The Entomological Society of Southern Africa and the Management Committee for the 23rd International Congress of Entomology cordially invite you to attend this major event, to be held in Durban, South Africa.

On behalf of the Council for International Congresses of Entomology I wish to warmly encourage you to attend the 23rd International Congress of Entomology (ICE2008) that will take place in Durban, South Africa, from July 6-12, 2008.

Frantisek Sehnal
Being the first in Africa, this congress will be of special significance. It will reveal the rapid growth of entomological science on the continent and help accelerate collaboration of African colleagues with their peers elsewhere. The broad range of expertise of the organising committee guarantees that the congress will provide a balanced overview of advances in diverse entomological disciplines from all over the world. The congress venue is an international congress centre that will provide an appropriate and secure setting, with up-to-date technical facilities.

I am proud that the ICE council has selected South Africa for the 2008 congress. South Africa boasts a considerable number of world famous entomologists, with a team of accomplished colleagues able to organize the largest international meeting on the entomological calendar.

ICE 2008 is but a year away, when entomologists from all over the world will convene in Durban. I envisage ICE 2008 to be a great success and look forward to meeting you and your colleagues in South Africa next year.

Sincerely yours,

Frantisek Sehnal

Gerhard Prinsloo
The Management Committee, in collaboration with our professional congress organizers, has been working extremely hard over the past two years to develop a truly dynamic forum for the exchange of new information and ideas of significance to entomologists of all persuasions from around the world.

With this landmark event we celebrate the first International Congress of Entomology to be staged on the African continent. We are confident that Durban and the acclaimed International Convention Centre will live up to your high expectations, and we encourage our colleagues throughout the world to use this opportunity to get a glimpse of Africa's astonishing insect fauna, to engage with its entomologists and to enjoy South African hospitality.

We look forward to welcoming you to Durban next year.

Welcome from the Scientific Programme Chair:
Dear Colleagues

The daunting task of compiling a Scientific Programme for ICE2008 is well under way thanks to the involvement of a large group of people from all around the world who have volunteered to serve as Section Convenors or Symposium Organisers.

The Programme will be divided into 18 Sections with over a 110 different Symposia covering a wide range of entomological topics. There will be plenty that is of interest for everyone. Although some Sections of the programme are already quite full, there will be adequate space to accommodate many, but not all, of the volunteered contributions that we expect to receive for oral presentations. Those contributions that cannot be accommodated as oral presentations will be allocated a poster slot.

John Hoffmann
While we would prefer not to have a selection process, this cannot be avoided so every effort will be made to ensure that posters are given maximum exposure at the conference. As there will be so many parallel sessions for talks, posters may be the most effective way of reaching a wide audience!

We really look forward to receiving your submissions, and needless to say the sooner the better. We believe that we already have the foundations of a Scientific Programme that will make the trip to Durban, South Africa very worthwhile for everyone interested in insects.

Make sure that you don't miss this golden opportunity.

Yours Sincerely

John Hoffmann
Chairman: ICE 2008 Scientific Programme Committee
